Developed by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, SPRAVATO® is an FDA-approved medication that has shown promising results in treating treatment-resistant depression. If you or a loved one have been living with depression and have not found relief with traditional antidepressant therapies, SPRAVATO® may be the solution you’ve been searching for. With its unique mechanism of action, SPRAVATO® has helped countless individuals reclaim their lives and find hope for a brighter future. Keep reading to learn more about this life-changing treatment.
A low dose of SPRAVATO® will be administered via intranasal spray. After five minutes, another small dose will be administered. Your provider will monitor you for a two-hour waiting period. We encourage you to wear eyeshades, listen to relaxing music, and focus inward during this time.
You will be monitored very closely during your SPRAVATO® treatment. This will include blood pressure, pulse measurements, and some psychological measurements before and after your session.
SPRAVATO® side effects are similar to those of IV ketamine: dizziness, lightheadedness, and nausea are the most common side effects experienced during the therapy session, but these should resolve by the time the session has ended and you have left the wellness spa. If not, we will ensure you are feeling better prior to leaving. On rare occasions, patients may dissociate (have an “out-of-body” experience) during treatment; however, this will go away after your session is completed. You must have a ride home from treatment.
We understand that navigating insurance coverage for SPRAVATO® can be a source of stress for our patients. At our office, we are committed to making this process as seamless as possible. We will work with you and your insurance company to provide you with coverage for your treatment.

Embarking on the SPRAVATO® treatment journey involves a structured process designed for optimal results. Following your decision to pursue treatment, our experienced team will guide you through a series of sessions that align with your unique needs.
This begins with a comprehensive psychiatric assessment to determine the suitability of SPRAVATO® for your condition, ensuring that your treatment plan is tailored to your individual circumstances. Upon confirming the appropriateness of SPRAVATO® treatment, our certified professionals will provide you with a clear and concise explanation of the treatment process, addressing any questions or concerns you may have. Each session involves the administration of SPRAVATO® via intranasal spray, and you will be carefully monitored throughout the process.
As part of the SPRAVATO® treatment regimen, the FDA-required Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) is implemented to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes. During your initial relief phase, you may have the opportunity to implement positive life changes to manage depression symptoms as they return. While ongoing maintenance appointments are often necessary every 4-6 weeks after the initial treatment, our priority is to provide comprehensive support, allowing you to sustain the positive results achieved through SPRAVATO® treatment.
Your SPRAVATO® treatment journey is carefully structured to fit your needs. After an initial assessment, our experts tailor the treatment to you. Once deemed suitable, our professionals explain the process and administer SPRAVATO® via intranasal spray, closely monitoring you throughout. We maintain open communication with your mental healthcare provider for a collaborative approach.
SPRAVATO® is specifically intended for adult individuals who are grappling with severe symptoms associated with major depressive disorders, including suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Additionally, it is intended for those experiencing treatment-resistant depression, a condition that can only be diagnosed and evaluated by a qualified medical professional. If you have undergone two or more preliminary depression treatments, such as talk therapy and prescription medications, or more advanced therapies like TMS or standard ketamine therapy, without any sustained relief or positive outcomes, then SPRAVATO® could potentially be the ideal solution for you.
The first step towards receiving SPRAVATO® treatment involves undergoing a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, which is fully covered by insurance. This assessment will help determine if SPRAVATO® is a suitable treatment option for you, especially if you have been diagnosed with treatment-resistant depression and have previously attempted two or more unsuccessful treatments. Once it is established that SPRAVATO® is the best course of action, our certified technicians will provide a thorough explanation of the treatment process and important safety considerations to ensure you are fully informed about what to expect.
During each treatment session, our qualified clinicians will supervise you as you administer the SPRAVATO® nasal spray, demonstrating the correct technique. Following administration, you will be asked to rest comfortably while our staff monitors you closely for any potential side effects. After a two-hour observation period, our technicians will conclude the session, and you will be free to leave.
